There is a bittersweetness in wedding photography.. Being woven into the fabric of a couples beginnings is beautiful in ways I didn’t not imagine. Starting with that initial email and all the planning, prepping, daydreaming that culminates into the wedding day. And then of course, the actual wedding! spending this amazing moment with the couple and their loved ones. But the day for us doesn’t stop there – I then spend another month and change culling and editing – bringing their story together for the final wedding albums.

When the day comes to hand over the final album, I’ve sometimes spent a year and half with the couple. Handing over the albums feels a bit like letting go of my kids bike seat for the first time. Like letting go of that little wobbly hand of the child so eager to stand on his own. Like every day sending them off to school – to have his own living, breathing, independent life. Though I get to be a small thread in the story, it is, alas, not mine to keep..

Metropolitan Building Wedding with Jon and Hillary

02.15.16

I remember a fellow-photog friend stating to me ages ago that wars and weddings were off-limits for her photographically. Both being potentially very stressful, apparently.. Buuuut here’s the thing – they’re fast-paced, yes, but to spend ones time with folks during one of their most happy days, in super cool locations is actually really a pretty awesome. Speaking of weddings, of course, not wars. And this little Metropolitan Building Wedding did not alter my position. Not one.little.bit.

In fact, I’m insanely in love with the Metropolitan Building. Wanna photo session in the stairwell? Yep. In the halls? Sure Thing. And the elevators?? Forget it. The bathroom is even dripping with hip-ness. This place has so much variety to offer, it’s a photographers dream – and great folks want to marry there, too! I was so jazzed to work with Clean Plate Pictures for this wedding. Jon and Hillary were so sweet and fun. Working with the guys-prep left my sides sore – they were so funny.

2015 Wedding Favorites

January is one of my most favorite months – there’s so much promise! And I love having an entire month or two to reflect, plan, daydream, prepare and clean house on the things that don’t seem to work and bring on new elements and exciting adventures. Perusing through my 2015 Wedding Favorites has definitely been one of those highlights. 2015 took me through Upstate New York quite a bit, all through the Boroughs and NJ – with new seeds planted in the Maryland/Pennsylvania areas for 2016. With nearly 40-weddings shot in 2015 – this was quite the collage of images to bring together. Throughout the year I worked with so many amazing folks – from assistants and second shooters as well as shooting for other studios, such as Cly by Matthew, Cyrience Creative Studio, Katherine Phipps, Marianne Bley, Clean Plate Pictures and Tanya Salazar and Jenna Popham. I love my little photog-circle and am so jazzed about the upcoming year!

Brooklyn Winery Wedding with Kasey and Paul

2015 had many new finds and adventures for me and on that shortlist was photographing a Brooklyn Winery Wedding with Clean Plate Pictures. As Brooklyn will forever feel like home to me, the Brooklyn Winery felt much the same. Between the gorgeous Bromeliads to the amazingly moody light – I could shoot here every day of the week and still feel insanely inspired. To top off the amazing space? A menu to drool over served up by the kindest staff.

Starting at The Roger Hotel in Manhattan – we jotted off to the Brooklyn Bridge and Waterfront for our portraits. The blues of the waterfront will always steal my heart. Kasey and Paul’s entire day was so magical. From their awesome set of family and friends who clearly find a good laugh to be the best way to spend a day and their own loving and easy-going ways, this day was simply perfect.

Princeton NJ Family Photography with Fred, Liz and Crew

This was the second trek I’d made to the country side for this Princeton NJ family photography session to spend a morning with this fabulous little family. Our first day together was when they’d first moved from NYC into their new home. We wandered around their new space – still free of furniture and ‘life’. We blew bubbles and played with the few toys that had moved from the Big City. We explored the property and wondered about meandering to the lake. We met a turtle! It was such a great day together – and subsequently picked up and published by Let the Kids Dress Themselves!

Nearly a year and a half later, with their little family growing and their house now full of life and love – we tucked into a day of chatting, playing and exploring. This day we made it to the lake and when they said ‘would you like to see the tractor’, images of little run-along toys came to mind. Ha! You’ll see. All I can say is: awesome.

Driving home left me with that amazing feeling I get after eating an insanely delicious yet healthy meal. Or after a great workout. Simply glowing inside and out. Spending time with folks who resonate such wonderful energy is special, indeed!
