This session was so much fun from the moment we started preparing and before we even met! First, this was given as a gift for Father’s Day. Granted, I’m biased (yes, it’s true), BUT, I simply think photography is the best gift. Ever.

And the timing could not have been more perfect. They just bought a new home and were moving from The City, to… The Country (kinda). When Liz didn’t even bat a virtual-email eye when I suggested the session take place in their new-and-un-decorated home, I knew right away this was going to be nothing shy of awesome. That quiet moment of a new home, before all the ‘life’ moves in is so very special and fleeting. I remember each of my moves so vividly, and I wish I’d stopped, for just a moment, to truly appreciate it before the new space was full of, well, my stuff. I could not be more excited with how this day took shape. We explored the house. We explored the details. We explored the outdoors and nature. (our little City Boy even got to meet his first wild turtle!).

Truly a special day where we captured a new beginning. A new adventure. I hope you enjoy the photos as much as I enjoyed taking them!

Elope NYC + Coney Island + fun couple + NY City Hall Wedding  makes for one awesome day.

I just love everything about this wedding, from our trip out to Coney Island, to the excitement of a NYC City Hall wedding (which if you’ve never been – go. if only to sit and watch the excitement, variety of wedding attire and absolute love all around!). Top it off with the goofy sweetness of Erin and Johnny and the day could not have been more perfect.

This is exactly the sort of wedding that just makes me want to pinch myself when I consider how lucky I am to be a photographer. When a couple (or family) bring me into their day, and their day is entirely devoted to what makes them as a unit tick, makes me feel insanely fortunate. The thought into each detail was perfectly planned. The thought into which details were not needed, were also attentively considered. And for that – I am just in love with this beautiful wedding.

Lots of great folks put their love into making this special day.. Styled by Jen did Erin’s hair, Erin’s dress came from Lord and Taylor and Johnny’s tux came from JCrew. Flowers were DIY by Erin’s own hand! And if you’d like to see the entire gallery, you can pop over to Erin + Johnny.

There is just so much goodness that I just love about this session. This beautiful family let me pop in and document a  morning in their life. And trusting me to do so on a new (to me) camera I’d only ran 1 roll of film through at that point. Showing up just as the waffles hit the table gave us some time to capture the kids getting ready, which, as a parent, is truly a huge part of the day. And as a parent with kiddo’s with tons of curls – I am particularly fond of being able to capture that moment!

Spending some time with this crew is like spending time with my own family – just so loving and happy for those around to just be themselves. Which just rocks. I can only hope anyone invited into our home would feel so welcome!

Then, of course, there is the fact that these parents just happen to be in a band – A Brave New Girl – doesn’t get much cooler than that. For the first time ever I wish my photo’s also had sound – as their music is just soulful. Rumor has it they will perform at weddings, as well – so if you’re looking for extraordinary talent, they are definitely worth checking out.

As for me and my new gear, in the (improvised) words of Dr. Seuss’s The Lorax, ‘All my life I’ve been searching for (a camera) such as this!’ . I’m elated. Beyond elated. I feel my collection is now complete. {happy!}

I hope you enjoy the pics!

It’s hot here today. Like, really really hot. So hot I’m starting to feel like a fish in a fish bowl. I am meant to be getting us ready for the holiday weekend. There are blogs to be posted. Sessions to be culled. Dishes to be washed and clothes to be folded.

Instead, I thought I’d share something pretty today.

This was  a fun little project of mine that never made the post (until now, obviously). These are 4 separate images, created with the intent of making 1 large image or 2 diptychs. I’m eager to get these on my walls as canvases. My next wall art installation, if you will.. All shot on film, making it that much more dear to my heart – as I was not able to check the back of the camera to make sure that I ‘got the shot’. And this is why I love film so very much – it really pushes me to make sure that I am shooting with intent and not just shooting and hoping I get something nice. With that – these are 4 images displayed in 7 ways. I hope you enjoy! You can also find these images in my storefront just here: Sunflowers.  sarahdayboodhoo.njfamilyphotographer.6sarahdayboodhoo.njfamilyphotographer.1sarahdayboodhoo.njfamilyphotographer.2sarahdayboodhoo.njfamilyphotographer.3sarahdayboodhoo.njfamilyphotographer.4sarahdayboodhoo.njfamilyphotographer.7 sarahdayboodhoo.njfamilyphotographer.5

So much goodness in my life has come to me so organically. I took Keith and Roberto’s headshot when they joined the First Congregational Church  of Montclair, NJ (my home away from home – read: I friggin love that place!). And coincidentally, they were getting married. I love stories that happen this way. I love these moments as working with people who have a similar vibe make the day more like hanging out with friends than anything.

Keith and Roberto have been together for years – having started their romance in college!! (and I love those stories, too!). They are such an extension of each other – the love and excitement of the day was nearly tangible.  There have been a few events that have actually brought on the tears for me. Now, I’m not an easy-to-cry sort of gal. But I’m not cold, either. But when Keith’s mom started to cry during the first mom and son dance, well, I was not the only damp eyed gal in the room.

It makes me happy that I was invited in to capture this wedding – and even happier to now call them friends.

Hope you enjoy their story!

ps – lots of great vendors put their hearts into this event. The wedding and ceremony both took place at the First Congregational Church in Montclair, NJ,  Laurence Craig Catering provided the absolutely divine cuisine, Mrs. B’s Cakes made the wedding cake and Jardiniere Fine Flowers provided all the lovely arrangements. DJ’s were J&E Entertainment and the tuxes were provided by the Mens Warehouse and the cake toppers by December Diamonds.
