Long long ago, I used to rock at B&W photography. It was almost exclusively how saw life and how I photographed. Color was eck. I couldn’t nail a color photograph to save me. AND, I shot on a 4×5 camera (as in, the camera that requires you put a blanket over your head so that you can see the ground glass  – aka, the ‘viewfinder’).

Some things have changed. Some not so much. While I still have my 4×5 and break it out every so often, it’s not my go-to kit any longer. More like an old friend I get to meet for coffee every quarter or so.

Color is my new BFF and b&w, well, more like an old boyfriend who’d I’d like to remain friends with, but, it just got weird. You see, they changed film types on me. And for some reason, whenever we meet, and we start to talk, I fall back into my old habits, and he? He’s moved on. And the results are almost nearly disastrous.

So, I’ve decided to really concentrate on getting to know the new b&w better. We used to work so well together, I’m confident we can become good buddies once again. In this effort, I forced my exhausted 2-year old to sit for some photos. With a donut. One would think this would be an adorably happy little 2-year old. Instead, he tried on his ‘NO!! Not the paparazzi!!!’ face. Se La Vie. At least Mr. b&w and I seemed to have gotten along for this little rendezvous!

And in case your curious – the donut was, indeed, delicious! Compliments from the Montclair Bread Co. And film processed at theFINDLab.

As an NYC Elopement Photographer in Central Park, there is just so so much I love about this wedding with Meg and Andy. Jen Cyr of Cyrience Creative Studio’s asked if I was around on a random Friday over the summer to help with this beautiful couples wedding day. And how could I possibly resist? Considering how I enjoy working with Jen and then a day galavanting around the park, the East River via the New York Waterway, Dumbo and Jane’s Carousel? Hell Yeah – don’t need to ask me twice.

Meg and Andy had just flown in from Ireland to elope here in NYC. It actually caught my breath when I learned that Meg, owner of Love Ezra, created her own dress, the lace overlay, the belt, the gorgeous bird-cage veil, the adorable atlas-bouquet, boutonniere and cufflinks! Having eloped myself, I wish I’d had a fraction of her talent and vision in planning our wedding. And I really really love elopements. For me, they embody the whole purpose of choosing to join two lives together – the love, the quietness, the beginning of this massive journey in tandem with another. Both Andy and Meg have souls of gold – Andy, a sheep farmer, melted my heart when he spoke of his flock. They’re his family. I truly could have spent the entire day with these two and  Jen.

And of course I’m just tickled with how the images turned out. If you’d like to see the complete gallery, you can pop over to the gallery just here:  Meg + Andy or you can see Jen’s full blog post from the day just here.

This kid does not love being in front of the camera. Not one little bit. Behind the camera, yes. Dismantling my cameras, oh yeah! But looking at the camera for a great portrait? Not so much.

And that is exactly why I adore each and every one of these images. It’s entirely authentic and true to who he is. Trying to figure out the light meter, trying to do what mom is doing. My kid, my love, and 100% true to himself.

There was just so much beauty in this Larchmont Yacht Club Wedding in Westchester, NY. I had the joy being a second shooter for Jen Cyr of Cyrience Creative Studios. I’ve truly come to love shooting with Jen. First, having a companion while photographing a wedding is really quite wonderful, and it also opens an opportunity to get a little creative. With Jen being open to various forms of creativity, this gave me the opportunity to break out my film cameras and shoot alongside her while she captures the formals digitally – which really just rocks my world.

And when everywhere we looked was such beauty, it made for a perfect day. If you’d like to see the complete collection of the day, you can pop on over to Jen’s blog just here: Mary Elizabeth + Patrick
